Hi everyone,
As you probably know, CSAR is once again on the agenda. The next key dates are:
12 September 2025 (today): Council position finalisation
14 October 2025: Earliest possible Council vote
The current Danish proposal is essentially the same text Belgium put forward about a year ago. Nothing substantial has changed. In principle, that should mean no government positions would need to shift. But of course, governments change, and so have some of the people now sitting in key posts across Europe.
The campaign at fightchatcontrol.eu has been very successful in mobilising opposition. We are grateful for their efforts and the awareness they have raised. At the same time, their messaging is not always accurate, so please keep that in mind. While our side has been effective in raising awareness, the same can also be said for the opposing side.
At this moment, our intel is mixed. ECPAT seems confident. Denmark believes they can win Germany over. Yet from our sources in government we are hearing that this is not actually happening. This contradiction leaves us uneasy: are we right to trust our own sources, or are we missing something?
In any case, I felt it was time to send you all an update.
Best regards, Tom Fredrik
